1.1.3 Jailbreak Achieved – not public yet

The iPhone dev team has achieved 1.1.3 jailbreak on both the iPhone AND the iPod Touch. The jailbreak solution has NOT been released to the public, and according to them will not be until February when the SDK releases, that way Apple doesn’t get to see the method, and break it before the SDK releases – jailbreak + SDK = awesome app functionality, for that free price we’ve all come to love for iPhone applications.

Hands-on With iPhone Firmware 1.1.3 [iPhone]

iphonefirmnew2.flv

We’ve got the walk-through video above, but here’s what we think of iPhone Firmware 1.1.3. The Google Maps location finding is excellent, probably because Apple made sure they programmed in Moscone’s data points correctly into their location services. It takes a while to zero in onto your location because it’s not GPS, which means it’s not really that great for turn-by-turn directions where you need to know whether or not to make a right at the next light.Multi-recipient SMS is exactly what it sounds like. Pick more than one recipient, send a message, and it gets delivered to everyone. What’s nice is that this set of people get saved as a “conversation” so you can send more messages to them without having to type in their names again.

Icon reorganization: same as what we’ve seen before. Hold down an icon, everything starts shaking, then you can drag stuff around to a new location. Drag an icon to the edge of the screen to get to the next or previous page. Swipe left and right to switch pages.

Webclips also works as advertised, letting you to bookmark a page onto your home screen. There’s nothing special about this other than the fact that you can remember a specific part of the page and go to it every time.

Next iPhone software update to allow copy-paste

Apple will release an iPhone software update during MacWorld Expo 2008, well informed sources confirmed MacScoop. But it appears that the unpolished iPhone sofware version recently leaked on the Internet doesn’t include all the features of the final release.

The reports we obtained claim that the software update will add copy-paste, which is one of the most requested features by iPhone users, and will provide a few other user interface improvements.

Additionally, the update should provide better stability and performance for the device which sometimes suffers from UI glitches and application hangs in its current version.

Sources also confirmed recent reports claiming that a soon to be released iPhone software update will offer very improved Google Maps with localization and hybrid view, mass SMS sending and multi-page editable home screen.

It is not out of question that other, non revealed yet features, appear with this update. Be sure that we’lll keep you updated in case we obtain more information.

iPhone 1.1.3 coming soon

In case you havn’t heard the latest buzz about iPhone, rumors are flying around that firmware 1.1.3 is coming out as soon as this weekend. Some of the changes are supposed to improved video capture, adding to hard drive storage features (maybe even allowing the iPhone to be used as a hard drive?). Of course there will also probably be the standard bricking problem when unlocked and hacked iPhones attempt the upgrade, and of course hackers will have this circumvented almost before it happens.
